Blood Drive

On Monday, September 10, 2012, Westminster held its annual blood drive in the “Smurf gym.”

Students sixteen and older showed up to donate blood at an event sponsored by the American Red Cross.

The blood drive used to be a part of Senior Class Service, but has since evolved into an event that draws about twenty-five students every year—the equivalent of twenty-five pints of blood.

“I heard that every blood transfusions saves three peoples’ lives, so I decided to get over [my fears],” said donor Brennen Almus, junior. “It doesn’t hurt too much; I’d do it again.”

The blood drive happens once a year and is open to parents and upper school students older than sixteen. Snacks, water, and stretchers are available for those who participate.
