On November 18th, Congress passed a bill to release the Epstein Files, with President Donald Trump vowing to sign it into law the next morning. On January 30th, this law was finally carried out with the release of over 3 million additional pages of these files. More than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images are included in that publication. Along with prior releases, the total number of pages released is an overwhelming 3.5 million.
These files are disturbing, yet they are more important to the Epstein case than Americans care to realize. Upon reading many of the files myself, I am convinced that this case is no longer a political problem in the slightest. It is a deeply sensitive moral issue.
Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender who committed and orchestrated a widespread ring of sex trafficking involving over 1,000 underage girls. He died by suicide in 2019 while he was in custody and awaiting trials for sex trafficking charges. The term “The Epstein Files” refers to the thousands of pages of data and documents collected during the criminal investigations of these abuses. These documents include emails, court cases, and photos found in Epstein’s house. Each document is more appalling than the next.
Westminster Senior Ginger Cox recalls how she felt the first time she read these files:
“I had to put my phone down because I was utterly disgusted. The first time I read one of the court cases I felt sick to my stomach, and just so angry.”
Without going too deep into the disturbing events described in the files, here is a brief overview of what happened with this case.
Epstein had homes in Manhattan, Palm Beach, and a ranch in New Mexico. He also had his own private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. At these homes, he would host dinner parties and surround himself with scientists, models, and other philanthropists. While the cases have not all been fully investigated, some major names mentioned in the files are as follows: Elon Musk, former Prince Andrew, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and many more. Their names are mentioned for a variety of things, not all necessarily related to the abuse that went down.
One name, however, is mentioned over and over. Ghislaine Maxwell is a former British socialite, and was Epstein’s biggest partner in his crimes. She is currently in federal prison, and is sentenced to 20 years with a projected release date in 2037.
Maxwell and Epstein would host many underage girls and abuse their power over them. Epstein would make them believe he was their mentor and friend by offering them money for college or for their family. He would get to know them, and would learn about what they wanted to be when they grew up. He would also hire a couple of them to do household chores for him.
Over time, however, Epstein used these relationships to his advantage. He forced these girls to perform many sexual acts with him, and he threatened them and took drastic measures in order to continue his despicable sexual abuse of the girls. Many of these girls were no more than 15 years of age.
These victims’ trauma did not end after Epstein was thrown in prison. To this day, these innocent girls are receiving death threats and horrible comments from others. Many have taken their own life because they just could not handle the trauma anymore. These facts have revealed the true tragedy of this case. These victims prove that this is no longer a political battle. It is a moral issue that needs to be recognized.
Our country is so used to finding a side to blame as soon as the option is available, but some things just cannot become political. When innocent lives are on the line, there should not be a question of whose fault it is. Democrat or Republican, people in these files did awful things to innocent young girls, and that should not be brushed aside simply because of the power they may hold.
This thing with Epstein should not end until people go to jail. Political parties hold no power over morality, and the law ultimately trumps over anyone. For once in American history, a Democrat or Republican win is irrelevant in this situation.
Regardless of what people’s opinions are, the events that transpired on this island were despicable. No court case is necessary to see that. The question now is how this country will surround these victims in support.
