On August 8th, 2025, the Westminster Chapel Band made history. In a mere two hours, these Westminster students planned and recorded a music video for the song “More Than Able” by Elevation Worship. Orchestrated by Mr. Han Kim, this video gave the group an additional opportunity to share their worship experience with the rest of the WCA community, exploring the different ways that worship can touch the hearts of others. Mr. Kim’s initial inspiration to create this video stemmed from the work he saw God doing amongst the chapel band:
“I can always feel the presence of God in practices,” he explained. “It’s genuine, the practice is meaningful, and the band opens their hearts to God […] I wanted our community to see this band outside of the chapel setting, like I do.”
In order to achieve this, Kim used a documentary style of filming to display the environment of the band. Throughout the video, cameras cut to the team conversing, hugging, and worshipping with one another in a way that can only be seen in a practice setting. Additionally, the smaller, more intimate environment that they were recording in made the video more personal for the viewers, as well as the band themselves.
Unlike the large scale performances that the band is used to, this music video was filmed in the grand entry with no audience or large speakers. This way, the worship felt more personal to WCA:
“When you think of Westminster, you think of the grand entry,” Mr. Kim said. “I wanted to begin our music videos here, showing that WCA is God’s place first and foremost.”
Additionally, the more intimate location had an impact on the way the band felt God at work. Kai Murphy, WCA senior and one of the lead singers in the video, expressed that it’s more of a personal worship experience when it’s away from a large crowd:
“The group was very in touch with the Spirit in the room. It gave us all more freedom to feel the music, and to feel God’s presence.”
Additionally, this intimacy allowed the band to recognize the impact that this project would make on the Westminster community. The hope of this video is that students will take time to pause and reflect on how they can use their time to worship God:
“This place can get busy so fast,” said Mr. Kim. “My desire is for our community to embrace God all the time, through everything we do.”
While Westminster is known for its God fearing community, students are still often tempted to give into the busy nature of their lives. They get caught up in homework and extra activities, and they sometimes forget to take time to worship God on their own. Through this music video, students are able to take in the importance of worship and community. They are able to see how God can be worshipped through the mundane, everyday tasks. This video has brought Westminster a new vision for its future chapels, preparing students’ hearts for a year full of genuine and meaningful worship.
