Hockey Team Off to a Hot Start

Hockey is not a sport that gets a lot of attention in the Westminster sports world. That may be because of the fact that it is not an official WCA sport, or because of some disappointing seasons in the past. This year, however, the hockey team is putting together a hot start to open the season in style.
The team started off the year with a down to the wire 6-5 win over Wentzville/Timberland. Wentzville/Timberland was responsible for ending the Wildcats’ season last year, so beating them to the punch in the first game this year was a sweet victory. The first goal of the new season was scored by Seth Mundorf, junior. Mundorf has been on the team since his freshman year.
“Well, it was pretty exciting. It was a good way to get the team pumped up and get excited,” said Mundorf.
In the next two games, the Wildcats went on to smother their opponents, Lutheran South and St. Charles West. The team put up an astounding 17 goals against the two schools while only giving up three. The team had a tough test in the next game against Ladue, playing without their top two goal scorers. Although they looked like they were down, the team proved they were not out. Sam Canfield, sophomore, scored three goals to lead the team to a close 4 to 3 win.
“Sam Canfield has stepped it up,” said Mundorf.
The team has won their first four this year, winning almost as many as they did the entire season last year. It is shaping up to be a great season, perhaps the best in Westminster hockey history.
