Girls Lacrosse Continues Their Streak

The Westminster girls lacrosse team has had a strong start to their season, showing their dominance and control on the turf just six games into the season. The cats are 3-3, with three wins against Visitation Academy, Parkway West, and Francis Howell Central. The three close losses came from Cor Jesu, St. Joes, and Rockwood Summit. The games were close, thrilling contests even if they ended in losses. They lost their first game to Cor Jesu 12-13 in double overtime, and they lost their second game to St. Joes, a notorious powerhouse team, 5-12.

We are a really strong team this year, and I think we are fun to watch. It is going really well. We are strong all across the field and everyone has grown in their lax skills since last season. It’s fun how we have freshmen to seniors on varsity and many different grades starting” says assistant coach Brooke Cogan. “There is already serious improvement since last season, and it shows. This is the second year that Coach Perona and I have coached the varsity team together, and I think anytime you do something a second time it is easier and has improvements. This year has gone more smoothly from practices to games and also even with how we organize game plans and practices.” Says Cogan. Senior Molly Kate Bugh leads the team in goals with 13 already on the season.

There are still 8 regular season games left until the postseason, so there is still work that needs to be done in order to secure a definite spot, however, hopes are extremely high for the cats.
