International Student Potluck Dinner is Celebrating Community

On September 13, at 6:30 pm the International Student Potluck Dinner, an annual event, took place in the Westminster Cafe. Attendees included Jim Marsh, head of school, Dr. Seifrit, faculty, and the families of international students.

“It is a celebration of God’s Kingdom,” said Jim Marsh.

The theme of the short speech was just that. The event was about celebrating the diversity of the Westminster community. The foreign exchange program began twelve years ago, and was founded by Dani Butler.

Families were encouraged to interact, and there was a time to recognize all of the international students.

“Having an exchange student adds variety to the family, and my wife cooks more,” said Dan Wibbenmyer, a host father.

Wibbenmyer is a father of three with two children in attendance at Westminster. Him and his wife, Kathy Wibbenmyer, are just a few of the many host families.

There are 22 host families, 18 returning and four new. People engaged with each other, and introduced their students to the other families.

“We get to interact with fellow students,” said one of the exchange students.

Minjoo Kim, freshman, met Hong Yong Choi, whom she had never met before.

“I’m excited for a big fat meal!” said Dongbin Lee, Sophomore.

There was a large dinner consisting of pasta, pizza, the Korean version of sushi, and much more. Everyone enjoyed the food, and some even tried new things.
