The history of the Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is the best selling muscle car ever. It didn’t start out like this, though. In 1964, the Mustang was born. It was an immediate success. No one had ever seen a car that was shaped like the Mustang. It looked sporty and very futuristic. The engine however, was not large. It was a measly six cylinder with 101 horsepower. It was described as a secretary’s car because it was so slow and underpowered. A V8 option was available that offered a sufficient amount of power. After that, the mustang took off as many more high performance models came out. Sadly, the second generation of the Mustang was  terrible. The size was shrunk down drastically and so were the motors. It was no longer a muscle car and now a compact car. It was the same deal in 1982, when the third generation came out. However, after a few years, the Mustang finally started to get powerful. The 4th generation was very good for the Mustang. The 5th generation was the start of the first high performance muscle car for Ford. The GT500 pushed 500 horsepower. It was the start of the horsepower war between Dodge and Chevrolet. In 2013 the new GT500 came out with 662 horsepower. This was the most powerful Mustang ever.  The 6th generation came out with a new independent rear suspension and new styling. Nothing special came out until 2016, where the GT350 came out. This was the highest revving Mustang, turning 8250 rpms. The GT500 came out for the 2020 model year again, packing 760 horsepower. While the Mustang may not be my favorite car, it’s still a very good choice for a muscle car.
