College Prep, A Relative Term

It’s that time of year when juniors are applying to colleges, and seniors are making decisions about which college to attend in the fall. Many are wondering if attendance at WCA will be preparation enough for what’s ahead. It is often assumed that Westminster is a college preparatory school, but the term itself is somewhat ambiguous.

Westminster’s prominent goal is for its students to grow up to be godly men and women who engage and change the world for Christ. While that is paramount, there’s more to a Christian education than being college-prep.

“When discussing the future of our students, we should keep in mind that college is a means rather than an endpoint. A student’s success is not defined by the college they end up attending. Westminster has a long-term view of education. We don’t only focus on getting our students into college – we want to prepare them for life after it as well,” said Noah Brink, assistant head of school – academics.

“We want students to leave Westminster having a passion for others, learning, and Jesus,” said Brink.

Whether or not one defines WCA as a college prep school, considering the level of academics and the way that students are prepared here, they should not be hesitant to apply to Ivy-League schools.

“With the education that students receive here, they have a good chance of being accepted into one of these schools. It is very hard to change the world for Christ when you stay only in one part of it (the Midwest),” said Brink.

Additionally, Brink says that he would be more than happy to write recommendation letters for those who need it.
