The Fate of the Movie Club

Movie Club prepares for new leadership and a new year

As Jeremy Scott, middle school Bible teacher, moves to California this summer, he leaves his legacy. Scott will be teaching at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, California. Last year, Scott founded the club with a large group of students to watch films and discuss the themes in them. Now, they’ve gone on to create podcasts and host movie watching events. From watching a western film in the courtyard to showing Frozen in the theatre, the Movie Club has made a name for itself.

“We just geeked out over stuff we loved, and asked ourselves, ‘As Christians, how might we love these things well?’” said Scott.

Mr. Gall is planning on sponsoring the movie club for the 2014-2015 school year, with Tessa Copeland, sophomore, as the club president. Even though Scott will be in California, he plans to stay as active as he can.

“We’re hoping to do something like having me skype in as a guest on the podcast,” said Scott.

In addition to new leadership, the club is coming up with new plans for next year. Entering in a short film contest is a possibility. They also hope to partner more with the AV club in their video podcasts.

The club started out with as many as 40 people and is now composed of about ten to fifteen members.

“I think next year it’s gonna grow a lot. Once it’s promoted well, I think students will come,” said Scott.
