The iPads are Here!

Seventh grade students utilize this technology as a new tool for enhanced learning

While the tranisition into seventh grade is already a big deal, the current seventh graders had a new opportunity to add to the adjustment.  For the first time this year, each family was required to purchase an iPad for their son or daughter to use as a learning tool to further their education.  The iPads are used as a tool for more interactive learning and to remove the walls of the classroom.  The students are able to take the tablet home every night to be used for a wide range of learning opportunities that were not available before.

“The iPads are really fun and make the learning more enjoyable than a textbook,” said Jovanna Hampton, seventh grader.

From history to P.E., the iPads are used in different ways to enhance the abilities of the students.  The Apple technology offers many apps and resources to be able to expand the walls of the classroom.  By using the iPads, the students are able to broaden their education outside of the typical textbook and class lectures.

In science and STEM classes the iPads are used as handy devices in the labs to enable a more interactive experience.  The iPads expand the possibilities and broaden the curriculum for the students.

Also, the iPads are used as a study to tool to help them memorize the material.  In World Geography, the students are able to use study games to make the learning stick and fun.

Not only are the iPads used in the typical classrooms, but also in P.E., the iPads are used for nutrition challenges which allows the students to apply the lessons in their everyday lives.  The apps allow the students to see the progress of the fitness program.

The students are not the only ones loving the program, but the teachers also enjoy the program and see the positive influences of the iPads.

“The benefits of this tool in the classroom provide wide ranges of ways it can be utilized to enhance learning,” said Ashley Woodall, seventh grade Geography teacher.

Woodall has seen many students thrive with this new program.  The new outlook on learning by incorporating the iPads into the classroom, has proven that it offers many benefits and advantages for the students.  The program has helped students become more engaged and focused in the classroom.

Westminster is not the only school that has embraced the world of Apple.  Many schools have followed the learning trend of iPads in the classroom because of the benefits that the technology brings.  Like other schools with an iPad program, Westminster has seen many improvements and advantages.

So far, the seventh graders have adjusted to the changes of the classroom with the iPad program.

“The students catch onto things surprising well and we look forward to seeing more improvements with the program,” said Woodall.
