Class reunions roll around after the days of high school have passed, but within those four years, time slips away faster than one may think. Students have about 1,460 days walking these halls to make some lasting relationships, and one way Westminster’s “Class Moms” encourage new friendships to be formed is through class events.

“The ‘Class Moms’ meet monthly to plan various activities for the parents and students.  They collaborate on planning the events, publicity, food, chaperones, etc…,” said Lisa Rupprecht, Chair of Class Activities.

From 7th grade all the way through 12th grade, class gatherings take place regularly to connect students with other students. Westminster’s weekly newsletter lists all of the happenings for each grade; this way, parents can stay informed and connected.

“Class events give the students an opportunity to get to know each other in various venues, thus building community and having fun!  The events also allow students to hang out with their friends who they might not see during the day at school due to schedules.  The parents also get to know each other through the planning and participating in the events.  Spending time together is beneficial to all, as you create relationships that will outlast your years at Westminster,” said Rupprecht.

At the moment, the middle school is preparing for their second hosting of Saemmul Christian Academy students for the Winter Camp. During this camp, twenty SCA middle schoolers are invited to stay with host families for four weeks to study english and attend classes with WCA students. Applications from potential host families are being accepted currently.

Middle schoolers are excited to meet some new people and make connections with kids just like them who live on the other side of the world.

Middle school had their tailgate party on October 6, where the seventh and eighth graders met to celebrate their football teams. The event consisted of free food and two football games.

They also had a picnic at Schroeder Park on September 22 where families of seventh graders came to enjoy the potluck food and games such as pie eating contests, relay races, and balloon tosses.

“We met a ton of new people. They’re better friends, too, not just acquaintances,” said Miranda Horn, seventh grader.

The class of 2018 is having a bonfire on November 3. This early in the year, it’s time for students to start making friends with people they will see for the next six years while attending WCA. Students will be able to gather around a blazing fire and crack jokes with new friends.

The class of 2017 had a hayride party on September 21 to connect parents and families as a whole with their children’s friends.

“They’re gonna let us do a scary hayride next year where people jump out at us. I’m really excited for that,” said Alivia Johnston, eighth grader.

On the 28th, eighth graders had their student social at the Brunswick Zone XL in Saint Peters. Laser tag, bowling, and arcade games brought this class together even more.

“We got to hang out with people we don’t usually see,” said Paige Stanfill, eighth grader.

Tailgates are always popular with classes, so the Freshman class just recently had their own on September 7. Football is something that brings people together in any grade at this school.

“It stormed; we all had to go inside, but it was still fun,” said Alysse Tarantino, freshman.

People don’t just come to football games to watch the players, but also to support their cheerleading friends.

“It was really awesome to see my besties out there cheering and doing what they love to do,” said Alyson Mckie, freshman.

The Sophomore class had a Skyzone party on September 27 where they had the whole facility reserved just for them.

“They rented out the place, they had a lot of fun, and they played dodge ball. I wish I went because I just missed the first party, and I hear it was super crazy, insane, and fun,” said Tripp Worley, sophomore.

The sophomores are about to have a family bonfire on November 3, which is one way to kick off the fall season as a big family.

Juniors are starting to think about class rings as they have received and turned in their order forms from Jostens on October 12. They also had a tailgate on September 22 to support the varsity football team.

“It was just a fun time to get free food and hang out with friends and watch the football game. Tailgates are always something nice to go to,” said Anna Lindstrom, junior.

Seniors are preparing their yearbook entries at the moment, but are anxiously awaiting class gatherings to come.

“We love class events because we get to hang out with people outside of the classroom setting! So far, we haven’t had any, but right before school started, we had a swim party at the Manchester Swimming Pool. That was really fun,” said Ben Lovell, senior.

Usually, each class has special parties sprinkled in throughout the school year, but this early in the semester, the senior class hasn’t had any yet.

“Last year, we had a scavenger hunt. It’s fun to get to know other people throughout the class,” said Sarah Barker, senior.

Each class has many of their own tailgates, get-togethers, and parties, so getting involved is made simple and fun on a regular basis. There is never a dull moment when parents are working hard to plan activities for everyone to enjoy.

“We want our kids to have fun. We want to provide an atmosphere where the kids can do that safely with their peers. The time spent on planning provides a fun opportunity for the parents to serve together. Believe it or not, parents like to socialize too,” said Rupprecht.
