Reading a book is unnecessary when the movie is coming in theatres.  Instead of having to spend days flipping through the pages of the story and imagining how the characters look, going to the theatre allows us to get the full picture of the story in only two hours.

The Divergent trilogy has grown in popularity due to its budding romance and suspenseful plot.  The story takes place after a great tragedy, so people are put into a caste system called factions and must belong to only one faction to keep the peace.  At some points in the film, the faction system was difficult to understand because the movie lacked some background.  Although the feuding factions seemed unnecessary, it contributed to the plot for the next installment in the movie franchise.

Actress Shailene Woodley portrays Tris, the heroine who remains brave during troubling times.  Woodley connected well to the character on- screen and brings Tris to life.  Tris has to prove to her family and faction that she is strong enough to hold her own while being challenged by her peers.  With the help of Theo James, who plays Four, the two characters have intense on-screen chemistry which allows the viewer to connect to the storyline on a deeper level.  Four helps Tris find herself to allow her to easily fit in while the other factions are hunting her down.

Ellie Goulding’s music is featured in Divergent and is on the film’s soundtrack.  The music helps set the tone for the scenes and allows the viewers to feel like they are a part of the movie because of the intensity the music brings.

Divergent is directed mainly towards teenagers who love storylines with romance, action, and suspense; however, most audiences would find the movie enjoyable.

To someone who has not read the book, Divergent is a must see because of its complex plot and character development.  Although the movie can be predictable at times, it was intense and allowed the viewer to speculate what will come next for Tris through her journey to remain brave in the broken world she lives in.
