This past Monday, September 23rd the Westminster soccer team took on the MICDS Rams. The game was seen as unlikely to happen due to the extreme rain that had been pouring down the previous day and continued into gameday. With these wet conditions the game would be a grinder.
The Wildcats got things started quickly. Senior Austin McCarthy got things going and tallied the first goal. Austin McCarthy has been a key player this year for the team already scoring 7 goals. McCarthy took the ball up the right side and hooked it into the back of the goal giving the cats an early lead.
The Wildcats kept it going, keeping the score 2-0 at halftime. The second goal came from Senior Middle. Blake Musielak Blake has also been a key player. This is his third year being a starter for the cats. Blake is also one of three senior captains for the Cats.
Ethan Martin also joined the party of scoring giving the cats a third goal. Martin is a first year player with tons of athletic background including being a part of the varsity baseball team. This is Ethan Martin’s first career goal and looks to keep adding more.
When asked about Martin’s first goal, he said “it was pretty surreal, obviously I have a lot of other athletic achievements but this one felt different.”
Once again Blake Musielak came back and scored, adding another goal making the score 4-0. The score does not tell the full story of this game though. The Rams put up a hard fight. Although the wildcat offense was on point, the rams had a tough defense that we had to counter. “We knew exactly how to counter their defense, all we had to do was execute.” said Senior Captain Landon Cassidy.
The Wildcats are on a hot streak right now being ranked 14th in the St. Louis area. They look to continue their season on Wednesday against CBC at Lindbergh at 4:15PM.
