Buchanan’s three-point shooting helps Westminster soar past Lutheran South and Chaminade.

Matt Buchanan, senior guard, without a doubt deserves this week’s “Athlete of the Week” due to his knockdown shooting in recent games. Buchanan has established his role as a three-point threat to other teams and plays a very dominant role for the Westminster offense.

Buchanan began shooting lights out in the Wildcats’ 63-26 win over Lutheran South on February 11th, where he shot eight for ten from the three-point line and led the team with 24 points. The next day, his hot hand continued against a strong Chaminade team, as he ended with twelve points after going 4-7 from beyond the arc. Buchanan was the second-highest scorer of the game against Chaminade, and his talent contributed to the worst home loss that Chaminade has received in the last century.

Being the team’s sixth man, Buchanan does not always have the time in games to perform, but his increasing success rate from downtown (48.9%) combined with his average of seven points a game has made him a valuable asset to the team. His individual momentum will certainly contribute to the team’s overall journey towards a state championship.
