This past Wednesday night, the girls basketball team pulled off an impressive upset against the former 18-2 Cape Notre Dame Bulldogs by a score of 57-44. The Wildcats now have a record of 19-4, without having lost since early January.

Westminster came out strong, knocking down several three pointers in order to dominate the first quarter with a score of 19-9. The full court press by the Bulldogs was easily broken and led to a series of easy layups for the Cats.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats maintained their energy and dominance by stretching the lead to 34-18 by halftime.

Going into the third quarter, Cape Notre Dame came out hungry for a comeback. The Bulldog’s went on a brief run using their aggressive full court press to force several turnovers from the Cats. However, their run was not enough to catch up, as the Wildcats kept the lead 46-30.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the physicality of the game greatly increased, and questionable refereeing led to an increase of fouls on the Cats. Both Brooke Highmark and Carsyn Beachy fouled out while Julia Coleman ended with four fouls.

In the end, Westminster secured their lead and closed out the game with a score of 57-44. Sophomore Brooke Highmark led with a game high of 22 points, and sophomore Reilly Brophy added 11.

The Wildcat’s play next at Lutheran South at 5:30 pm on Tuesday.
