Varsity Soccer Rolls Over Lutheran North

The Futbol Cats have not lost to North in program history.

The Futbol Cats evened their season record to go 2-2 on the year after dominating Lutheran North 8-1.
The scoring opened in the tenth minute after Jack Linton, senior, ran onto a perfect through ball, putting himself ahead of all the defenders. The goalie promptly ran for the ball, and Jack sliced the ball straight into an empty net.
Just a minute later, Sam Hunsicker, senior, added his name to the score sheet. He shot and scored from inside the box to put the cats up 2-0.
After this 2-0 lead, Coach Legters subbed out the majority of his starters. With eight minutes to go, Myles Hehner, senior, scored a fancy goal to extend the lead to 3-0. For Myles, usually a defender but playing at center midfield, this was his first goal of the season.Naturally, he netted another just four minutes later for the first half’s final goal.
At the half, the Wildcats were up 4-0 and Freshman goalie Will Lenner had not seen a single shot. Just five minutes into the half, sophomore Frankie Sacco buried a goal in the bottom left corner to put the cats up 5-0. Minutes later, Andrew Kempen, freshman, buried a goal of his own to increase the lead to 6-0.
The game’s most exciting moment came in the fifty-third minute as Erik Bergman, freshman, delivered a fantastic shot, but the Lutheran North goalie saved the shot. Unfortunately for the goaltender, the rebound fell right to the feet of David Kerkhoff, junior. David shot once, hit the crossbar, but found the net eventually as he tapped his rebound in to make the score 7-0.
The team’s last goal came in the seventy-third minute as Andrew Montgomery, senior, scored the club’s eighth and final goal of the night. A last minute goal by Lutheran North was nothing more than consolation, but did ruin freshman goaltender Will Lenner’s clean sheet.
The Wildcats moved to an even .500 despite never losing by more than a single goal on the year, and will play next tomorrow at Parkway West at 6:00. The next home game will come next Monday.
