JV Football Hangs Onto a Nail Biter

A late defensive push gave the JV WildCats a 21-19 win over St. Dominic.

Chad Briden, sophomore, and Grant Lavalle, sophomore, had some serious chemistry today, combining for over 200+ yards and 14 of the team’s 21 points, in a 21-19 win against St. Dominic on Monday. The team got off on the right foot when freshman Atlin Hall picked off the St. Dominic quarterback at the 42 yard line as the final seconds of the first quarter ticked away. First play of the second quarter, Chad Briden, quarterback, threw a 58 yard bomb to Lavalle, a wide receiver for the team. The extra point attempt would later be blocked, making the score 6-0 Wildcats. With 1:05 left in the second quarter, Briden would again find Lavalle open in the endzone. The score would become 14-0 Wildcats due to a 2 point conversion from Briden to Lavalle. With the 1st drive of the second quarter, as the Wildcats stormed down the field, Chad Briden handed the ball off to Hall, who also plays running back, for a touchdown. As the 3rd quarter ended, St. Dominic replied with a QB sneak into the Wildcat endzone, making the score 21-6. St. Dominic again drove the length of the field with another QB sneak, added on a 2 point conversion, and made the score 21-12. The St. Dominic special team would then answer the nonexistent Wildcat push, with an onside kick, which was recovered by the St. Dominic special team. With the game slipping out of their grasp, the Wildcats made a goal line stand. The Wildcats were able to hold the St. Dominic offence out of the end zone due to a crucial pass break up by Jeremiah Thompson, sophomore. The St. Dominic defence would hold the Wildcats at bay, stopping all efforts by the Wildcats to end the game, and forced the team to punt. The St. Dominic Quarterback would again score with less than 2 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, 21-19 Wildcats. The Wildcats would settle down, disrupting an attempt at an onside kick. The Wildcats held onto the game by a 21-19 margin.
