The Westminster Cyborg Cats compete in the St. Louis Regional next Thursday-Saturday, and they have a legitimate shot at winning their second regional in their five year history. They will be highly scouted as a gear specialist, and they could easily seed in the top 3.

The St. Louis regional has been won by an alliance captained by a non-Missouri team every year since 2013, when it was won by Camdenton team LASER. This year the top teams driving in from out of Missouri project to be 4143 MARS/WARS and 1732 the Hilltoppers. They will likely join with perennial top 8 robots 1208 Metool Brigade, Camdenton LASER, 4500 the Robohounds, and Westminster’s own 4256 the Cyborg Cats.

On Thursday, teams prepare their robots and compete in practice matches. On Friday, the competition gets underway, as from 9 AM until 7 PM all 52 teams compete in about 100 total randomized 3 v. 3 qualification matches to determine the rankings for Saturday’s playoffs.

On Saturday morning, teams take part in a 2 round snake draft to determine playoff alliances (teams of 3), and then compete in a typical 8 team bracket to determine the winning alliance. The winning alliance will qualify for Worlds, as well as the winner of the Engineering Inspiration award, the winner of the Rookie All Star award, and the winner of the Chairman’s award.

The Cyborg Cats look to qualify for Worlds their fifth time in six years, and they also compete at the Rocket City regional in Huntsville, Alabama the week after Spring Break. They won their first regional last year in Queen City, and the bar is set even higher this year as they look to win 2.
