Bringing the Country to Town and Country

On April 8 at 7pm, Westminster will be hosting a spring square dance night in the arena. This night is open to all current high schoolers and offers dancing, games, and food. Westminster has hosted several square dancing nights in the past, but had decided to discontinue it for the past couple years.

“It has been three years since the Student Leadership Team has chosen to have a square dance as the spring activity because for the past few years the team has always chosen a different activity,” said Susie Brown. These activities have included a Frozen movie night and other fun activities.

Although when many people think of square dancing, their thoughts usually involve couples. The dance will also include line dancing which includes everyone in the festivities.

“The Student Leadership Team decided that this year’s square dance will not be a date event.  We encourage groups of friends to come and participate in both square dances and line dances.  Not having the pressure of asking someone will hopefully make the whole event more laid back and a time to just have fun with friends!” said Clara Gruneisen and Sophie Dunlap, seniors.

This laid back theme will also reflect the attire worn to the dance. Normal flannel, jeans, and cowboy boots will be the common theme of the night.

Although dancing is not the easiest thing to do, square dancing offers simple steps that anyone could easily catch on to. That is why this night is made perfect for everyone. Square and line dances consist of a leader who calls out each step of the dance. That means that all people can attend, with any level of dance experience. It will allow everyone to express themselves and have fun, but also follow simple steps that will leave the entire student body square dancing pros.

This night is not only limited to dancing, but it will also include light food for all students to enjoy and games.

“It is a great time of dancing and games with friends that’s relaxed and fun!” said Clara Gruneisen and Sophie Dunlap, seniors. Although the games have not be decided on, it will allow all students to have fun on and off the dance floor.

Although planning is still in the process, all of the events will come together to form one memorable night for the entire student body to enjoy.
