Varsity Soccer Team Posts Shutout Over Triad in First Game of Season

FENTON—The Westminster soccer team took on the Triad Knights late Monday night. The season started off right for the Wildcats. “For our first game, we moved the ball well on offense, controlled the midfield, and created chances. On defense, we kept our shape,” said head coach, Dan Legters.

In the 33rd minute, Conner Hunsicker, senior, got a pass from Jake Grimes, senior, split the defenders and fired a shot to the left side of the net.

The second goal of the night came just five minutes later when Matt Hudnut, senior, kicked a rocket over the head of the keeper.

The third and final goal came in the 46th minute when Hunsicker skipped the ball into the net on a free kick 5 yards outside the box.

The Wildcat soccer team looks forward to the future. “Our goal is to make the final four for the first time in Westminster history,” said John Hunsicker, junior.

Coach Legters thinks this goal is very realistic.

“If we play with this energy and excitement in the postseason, I like our chances to win our district and move on to the state tournament,” said Legters.

Come out and see the varsity Wildcats play Tuesday vs. Troy at 6:15 and Thursday vs. Mehlville at 4:30. Both games are at Busch Soccer Park in Fenton.
