Part 1 of our coverage of new teachers at Westminster Christian Academy

Imagine setting foot into a completely new environment with the responsibility of teaching and relating to a whole new audience. For many new teachers, this sometimes scary scenario is reality.
With each passing year, Westminster strives to provide students with excellent, praiseworthy teachers. This year Emily Dierking, Susan Maynor and Diane Miller are all new editions to the teaching staff and are determined to take Westminster to a new level.
With a bachelor’s degree in art education from Bradley University, Dierking is more than prepared to transform Westminster like never before. She has taught art at University City High where she sponsored the student led art club. While there, she developed and taught the ceramics and sculpture curriculum. One of her goals is to rewrite the AP art history curriculum. As the new visual art teacher, she has many goals for her class. “I want to help students learn to enjoy making and viewing art, prepare students for college and get their portfolios together,” said Dierking.
Although a newcomer this year, Maynor is no stranger to WCA. Not only did she graduate from Westminster in 1986, but she spent six years here teaching seventh grade English, geography, digital communications, video production, film as literature and creative writing. She returns as a part time practical arts teacher. Her bachelor degree is in education from Wheaton College, and she has a master’s in communications from Lindenwood.
Miller will also be fulfilling the role of the part time practical arts position. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health education from Southwest Missouri State University. Her M.E.D. is in counseling. She was the director of college and career counseling. For three years she was the publications coordinator at Westminster.
