You have all inevitably heard of the plethora of clubs and extracurriculars available to students starting off the school year. One of those clubs is the service club, a unique assembly of middle and high schoolers with a heart to help others, both outside and inside the school.
The primary objective of the service club is to live out God’s plan for us, serve His people, and display his love. No matter a student’s age or experience, they are never too young to make a meaningful difference in the world.
Student Life Director Ashley Woodall, when asked about her opinion of the club, explained that the main goal was “to show students that even though they are young, they can have a big impact in the lives of others. They can live out our mission to ‘engage the world and change it for Jesus Christ’ […] There are so many needs in the world, and you have been given unique gifts and passions that God can use to bless the lives of others.”
Brenna Williams, Westminster 9th grader and one of the student leaders of the service club said that the club also acts as a window into the future lives of students who participate in it, allowing them to view different opportunities for a career and have experience working in those roles to some capacity. This helps students have better clarity on what they would and would not like to do after graduating high school.
“We wanted to go to places that people might be interested in in the future, like job opportunities.”
I was curious about what kind of people the leaders wanted to join the club and if there was a goal as to how many, but the co-leader of the club along with Williams, enlightened me.
Fellow 9th grader Giselle Fichter says, “We just want to find a group of people who enjoy serving and who will come to the club. It doesn’t matter how many as long as they’re passionate and friendly to helping others.”
Woodall gave a final message to all students who stumble upon this article: “There are so many needs in the world, and you have been given unique gifts and passions that God can use to bless the lives of others. You are not too young to make a difference!” In other words, get out into the world and use your skills for good, and what better way than joining the service club! It currently meets Wednesdays from 3:05-3:45 in Mrs. Woodall’s office in the hub. See you there!
