Just Blog It

Along with texting, Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail, blogging is another way for people to communicate with each other in this era of fast paced instantaneous news. Blogs enable all people to become authors who are able to express their ideas and opinions for other people to read and ponder.
Blogging has been popularized due to its easy methods of beginning a blog, resulting in a multitude of blogs to peruse concerning a wide spectrum of topics.
“It’s so easy to do that you can start a blog in twenty minutes,” said Andy Kerckhoff, middle school teacher and faithful blogger. Kerckhoff’s goal is to write three pieces per week for his blog, http://growingupwell.org/.
Benefits of blogging include keeping in touch with friends and family, exercising writing skills, and sending a message to others about issues that matter to the author.
“People are blogging about things they love,” said Kerckhoff.
Blogs have become like a daily, weekly, or monthly publication for avid readers who enjoy keeping up with various blog authors on a never-ending continuum of topics. The advantage of being a blog author is that there are no deadlines. It is up to the author to update as often or as little as the author chooses.
Blogs have become so popularized that TIME has published its second annual list of the top twenty-five best blogs in the world for 2009, which includes a range of topics from politics to housekeeping to movie reviews. An economic minded person can learn how economics pertain to all areas of life in the blog, http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com. For the environment conscious fanatic, http://www.got2begreen.com is the blog to examine for ideas to preserve the planet at a cost that won’t break the bank. The sports lover addicted to the controversy behind last night’s game will be perfectly at home reading http://deadspin.com.
The desire to communicate is embedded in human nature, and in the 21st century there are an increasing number of ways to do so. Blogging is another tool to express an opinion and become known. News is constantly happening and because of the proper tools available, it can be recorded instantaneously. The availability of information leaves no reason for teenagers to be uninformed or unaware. In upcoming articles, the Wildcat Roar will be digging into the depths of the online written word to highlight blogs that are worthwhile, as well as interesting and pertinent to students at Westminster.
