Spring Sports Preview

The 2016 baseball Wildcats seek to reach their fifth state championship in six years. The Cats look to avenge an early exit from last season’s playoffs. They have 13 returning guys (7 starters). Six of the guys will continue their baseball career at a NCAA Div. 1 or Div. 2 school. The Cats are the fifth ranked team in class 4. They are hungry to get back to the State Championship game and carry on their winning tradition.

The Boys Varsity Golf team is prepared to have a great 2016 season. With three returning seniors, the squad looks to make a strong impact.

“We’ve got a good team. There’s lots of returning talent, but also some new guys that will be key. We are all excited to bring home the victory”, said Willie Canfield, senior.

The Boys Varsity Volleyball team is looking to defend their state crown. They look to overcome the loss of outside hitter Cameron Hibler who led the team in kills. Despite the loss, the team is looking to have a great year with returning juniors Ethan Davitt and Jimmy Thomas. The Cats have also made a key addition in Nathan Hall, senior.

The 2016 varsity boys tennis team will be looking a lot different this year. The team lost several players who graduated, as well as would-be-junior, Eddie Griesedieck, who moved to play at a tennis academy. The team also lost future star, JD Wiese, to an unexpected death.

“I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates this year. I know there will be a lot of them”, said Sam Hunsicker, senior captain.

The team knows it will be difficult to go to state with MICDS in their district, who has won state the past three years as a team. However, the team hopes to at least make it to the district finals again and hopefully send one or more individual players to state.

WCA’s girls lacrosse team is expected to have an exciting season. Eighty girls hit the turf to tryout for Varsity, JV, and C teams. Key players to watch this season are Senior goalie Elizabeth Bowman, Sophomore midfielder Whitney Radloff, and Senior defender Brittney Tucker. The girls are hoping to improve upon their 2nd place finish in Districts this year. Come out and support the teams with games starting after Easter!
