Not Your Typical Spring Break

“Where are you going for spring break?” is a question frequently asked around WCA this time of year. Spring break is a well-deserved time off. However, not everyone has an extravagant destination in mind.

Many WCA students are breaking the social norm by ditching the stereotypical spring break beach trip and pursuing something that matters. Even though Florida is great and is a much needed break, why not try something a little different?

Students from the E-Free church are doing just that by traveling to somewhere a little closer to home. Chloe Wimpfheimer, sophomore, is doing mission work in downtown St. Louis.

“I decided to go on the downtown St. Louis mission trip again this year because it is a unique experience that shifts your focus on what poverty is and what true joy the people who live there have” said Wimpfheimer.

These students are doing good for the community as well as for themselves. By building houses, renovating buildings, and cleaning yards, Wimpfheimer and her friends are breaking the status quo and are feeling good doing it.

Even though Wimpfheimer is serving and investing in others, she also is investing in herself in a way that will last forever. Not only do the students serve, but they also get the opportunity to build relationships with the residents of the community.

Taking the road less traveled for spring break has proven to be a worthy alternative to the typical beach vacation.

Spending spring break serving can be just as fulfilling as taking the time off to relax. You do not have to go on a mission trip to find something meaningful, but I encourage you to go beyond the bounds of the typical spring break and try something different. Mission Trip_n
