The first day of Spirit Week brought with it not only the excitement of kicking off a week of competition, but many new ways to celebrate too. The dress-up theme was masquerade and though this is commonly associated with formal attire, the limits were definitely stretched. Some people wore clothes resembling another person. For example, Sandra Winchester and Andrea Wilcox, both upper school science teachers, dressed as each other since people are always mixing them up. Also, many students and teachers had masks of Rich Van Gilst, upper school math teacher. The newspaper and yearbook staffs also devised a plan to look like Scott Vonder Bruegge, publications teacher. Overall the seniors had the most people dress up. The competition continued with both new and old games. The sophomores won the Balloon Stomp, juniors won the Ostrich Relay and WCA Quidditch, and seniors won the Caterpillar Race and The Floor is Lava. In addition, 8th grade boys and girls beat the 7th grade in Tug o’ War and the sophomore boys defeated the freshman boys. Nevertheless, the sophomore girls lost to the freshman girls. Westminster also welcomed the new MCs Scott Holley, academic dean, and Scott Holley, upper school history teacher.
